wagamama and Starbucks open their doors in Plaza Río 2

  • This is the fourth wagamama restaurant to be opened in Spain. Situated in the lookout area, in a privileged spot in the shopping mall, and with the capacity for more than 200 diners among the dining room and extensive terrace, it features the original offering and atmosphere that have turned it into the world’s leading Pan-Asian restaurant brand.
  • The all-new Starbucks store on the first floor of the shopping mall has a surface area of 163 m2 and a design inspired by the brand’s values to create a cozy place that seeks to connect with the identity of the new shopping mall.
  • These openings have created 64 jobs.

Grupo Vips, one of the leading restaurant and retail multi-brand and multi-format groups in Spain, opened two of the international brands it manages, wagamama and Starbucks, at the new Plaza Río 2 shopping mall, inaugurated on the banks of the Madrid Río recreation area and opposite the Matadero cultural center.  The openings of these iconic brands created 64 new jobs with locations situated in privileged areas of the recently inaugurated shopping mall.

Situated in the lookout area of the shopping mall, the all-new wagamama features the characteristics that have turned the brand into an international success ever since it was founded in London in 1992. Fresh and nutritious food, cooked to order right in front of diners, different areas ranging from long benches to tables at the bar counter, to enjoy a meal alone or with friends comprised of recipes that are healthy, tasty and daring just as is the very name of the restaurant (wagamama means “willful” in Japanese): ramens, teppanyaki, curries, donburies and sides to accompany any of its freshly-squeezed juices or Asian beers and, of course, free green tea that can be refilled as often as customers wish.

The all-new wagamama restaurant in Plaza Río 2 created 50 jobs with a capacity for more than 200 diners among the dining room (109) and the extensive terrace (160). Following the brand’s successful landing in Spain in the spring of this year, wagamama now has four restaurants in the capital city, two downtown on the streets Serrano and Génova, and another two recently inaugurated ones in major shopping malls: Parquesur and Plaza Río 2.


Starbucks, A Passion for Coffee

The all-new Starbucks Plaza Rio 2 is in an excellent location with access from the main entrance to the shopping mall and views of the Madrid Río and Matadero. The store occupies a surface area of 163 m2, divided between the indoor area and the two terraces available.

In order to offer guests the best service, Starbucks relies on 14 of its now-famous baristas (coffee experts), who are trained to prepare up to 86,000 different and personalized combinations of beverages to order and in an artisan way.  Customers may choose everything from the type of coffee to the type of milk and syrups and enjoy the taste of Starbucks’ delicious beverages such as their famous Latte or Cappuccino made with the best 100% Arabica coffee and perfectly whipped milk to create the best cream.

As far as the store decoration, the warm atmosphere stands out with wood finishes and furniture that adds an “at-home” touch. A metal-engraved world map was installed showing the coffee production process in three different regions of origin.

With this opening, there are now 118 Starbucks stores in Spain.
