Starbucks opens the doors of its first store in Toledo

  • The mayor of Toledo, Ms. Milagros Tolón, was responsible for inaugurating the new location along with Mr. Álvaro Salafranca, CEO of Starbucks in Spain and Portugal.
  • The all-new Starbucks store in Toledo is also the first in Castilla La Mancha and has a team of 18 baristas trained to prepare more than 86,000 different varieties of beverages.

The Starbucks experience has come to Toledo for the first time with the opening of its first store in the city, located at calle Comercio 40, just a few steps from Plaza Zocodover.

The inauguration event was held this morning and was presided over by Mr. Álvaro Salafranca, CEO of Starbucks in Spain and Portugal, who was quite enthusiastic about the store’s arrival in the city.  “Toledo is one of the most historical cities in Spain and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  We just couldn’t leave it without a Starbucks. We are very proud to become a part of the city’s life and bring our passion for coffee to one of the most emblematic areas of the city - Calle del Comercio,” said Álvaro Salafranca, CEO of Starbucks in Spain and Portugal.

The event was also attended by the mayor of Toledo, Ms. Milagros Tolón, who cut the ribbon and emphasized the importance of promoting business in the city and improving the gastronomic offering and services available for Toledo residents and visitors.  The city’s leader highlighted the number of jobs created by this new project and recalled how other brands like Ginos have recently opened in the historic downtown area. The mayor predicted the brand would be “very successful” and mentioned the local government’s commitment to collaborating with the project as part of the assistance the city council offers to encourage business and improve the gastronomic offering and services available.

The Starbucks store in Toledo relies on 18 of its now-famous baristas (coffee experts), who are trained to prepare up to 86,000 different and personalized combinations of beverages to order and in an artisan way.  Customers may choose everything from the type of coffee to the type of milk and syrups and enjoy the taste of the brand’s delicious beverages such as their famous Latte or Cappuccino made with the best 100% Arabica coffee and perfectly whipped milk to create the best cream.


Commitment to Toledo and Castilla La Mancha

The concept of “zocodover” (livestock market), once the nerve center of social and business life in Toledo since medieval times, inspired the design with a “living” distribution of the products on the shelves in the store in combination with noble and natural materials such as wood to create a cozy atmosphere featuring a large glass window overlooking the busy street.

For Starbucks, Toledo is a strategic enclave due to its location, tourism and cultural offering, all of which provide for a high volume of business all year round. The opening of this store is part of the brand’s commitment to Castilla-La Mancha and the expansion plan that will continue this year at a good pace in Spain where the brand expects to open some twenty new stores within the next few months.
