Starbucks, the leading coffee distributor and roaster in the world, has come to Oviedo for the first time with today’s opening of its first store in the city, located in Plaza de la Escandalera. From the time it opened (7:30 a.m.) until noon, more than 500 Oviedo residents had already come to the store to enjoy its more than 86,000 different and personalized combinations of beverages for which customers may choose everything from the type of coffee to the type of milk and syrups and enjoy the taste of the brand’s delicious beverages such as its famous Latte or Cappuccino made with the best 100% Arabica coffee and perfectly whipped milk to create the best cream.
“We’re very pleased with how we’ve been received. It’s been a morning of great excitement with our arrival in the neighborhood and the possibility of sharing our passion for coffee and our baristas’ knowledge and dedication with the locals,” said Álvaro Salafranca, CEO of Starbucks in Spain and Portugal.
Starbucks pays homage to the most emblematic places in the city of Oviedo
To celebrate its arrival in Oviedo, the brand set up a temporary painting in Plaza de la Escandalera square, right in front of the store, using a giant Starbucks cup as the canvas, representing the residents’ favorite spots in the city. To do so, it relied on collaboration from Asturian artist Samuel Armas, who has won several quick painting awards and has participated in national and international expos like ARTMADRID, ROOM ART FAIR #4 and DONOSTIARTEAN. Samuel was responsible for reflecting live the beauty of the three most emblematic spots in the city, chosen by the locals through a social media action promoted by the brand. The places with the most number of votes which in the end were represented on the giant Starbucks cup were the Cathedral of Oviedo, the Naranco viewpoint and the Carlos Tartiere stadium.
Plus, Armas drew these and other important places in Oviedo on 500 limited edition cups given out to the city’s residents for the opening.
Respect for tradition at the new Plaza de la Escandalera store
The all-new Starbucks in Oviedo is located in Plaza de la Escandalera at the corner of “Casa Conde”, one of the most emblematic buildings in the city. The architectural perfection and beauty of the details adorning the facade of this early 20th century stately home play an essential role in the store’s exclusive design, which Starbucks handled with special care.
Particularly standing out are the beautiful original exposed brick tile walls on the facade and stairs, demonstrating the beauty and architectural sincerity of the location design, which also features noble materials like copper and solid wood.
The brand is growing in Spain with a commitment to Asturias
The opening of this store is part of the expansion plan with which Starbucks wishes to begin to strengthen its presence in Asturias. This expansion will continue this year at a good pace in Spain where the brand plans to open some twenty new stores within the next few months.
