Grupo Vips supports "Earth Hour"

    Madrid, 23rd March, 2017.


    • Grupo Vips will turn off the lights on the storefronts of their more than 350 locations in Spain and Portugal for one hour. It is a symbolic act to reflect upon and spread awareness for climate change. 
    • The company will carry out awareness actions aimed at its 9,300 employees, more than 120,000 daily customers and more than 2,500,000 fans of its social media accounts in order to support the movement organized by the WWF. 


    Madrid; March 23, 2017.  Grupo Vips is participating for the eighth year in a row in the worldwide “Earth Hour” campaign promoted by the non-governmental organization, the WWF. The initiative encourages turning off the lights on monuments and buildings all over the world as a symbolic gesture to get people to think about defending the environment and fighting climate change.

    To support this action, all Grupo Vips locations will turn off the lights on their storefronts between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, 25th March. Participating in this campaign, which has become the greatest environmental movement in history, will be the more than 350 Grupo Vips restaurants and stores in Spain and Portugal which include its brands Vips, Vips Smart, Ginos, Fridays and Starbucks.

    Moreover, the Grupo Vips brands will support the global initiative at each one of its 350 locations by informing customers with table cards specially designed for this event and through their respective social networking sites and digital portals with messages concerning the need to protect the planet and encouraging their active participation against climate change.

    “Earth Hour is a wonderful way to spread awareness for climate change and Grupo Vips did not at all hesitate to again join this campaign, spreading awareness among partners and customers on the importance of the sum of all individual contributions to achieving a global result against climate change,” says María Calvo Director of Talent Management and Corporate Responsibility at Grupo Vips.

    Thus, Grupo Vips aims to spread awareness among its 9,300 employees, the 120,000 people who visit its locations each day and the more than 2,500,000 followers of its brands in the social media for the importance of responsible energy use and the importance of reducing one’s carbon footprint in the fight against climate change. Earth Hour seeks to spread the message among citizens that a small gesture can have a great impact on the planet.
