Madrid; January 20th, 2017 – The arrival of the leading Pan-Asian restaurant in Spain now has a date and a location. This April, the first Spanish wagamama will open up its doors in premises that will be situated at number 41 on Madrid’s Serrano street. It will do so by the hand of Grupo Vips, thanks to an agreement that was reached in July 2016 between the Spanish restaurant group and the London chain to operate the brand exclusively in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. This first opening will be followed by another before the summer, also in Madrid, specifically in Genova street.
“We’re really excited to bring a brand of such renowned international prestige and which is backed by twenty-five years of success to Spain,” said the brand’s managing director in Spain, Álvaro Salafranca. “wagamama is a concept that seduced us from the beginning because of its strong brand identity, the quality and freshness of the food it serves and the passion with which its teams offer customers a different kind of experience.”
wagamama, which means “naughty child” in Japanese, was created in 1992 in London by chef Alan Yau. Its successful offering made it the international leader in its market segment in just a few years. Currently, there are a total of 168 locations in 19 countries.
Brian Johnston, wagamama’s International Managing Director commented, “It’s always exciting to be opening in a new country and we’re thrilled to be launching our first restaurant in Spain in April. Grupo Vips has huge experience in the region with a proven track record in developing and establishing international brands and we are delighted to be working with them .”
A little more about wagamama
The ingredients that have cooked up wagamama’s success and which guests will soon be able to appreciate in Madrid are endless.
Inspired by original japanese ramen bars, wagamama is a modern Asian restaurant concept, which offers fresh and nutritious products cooked in an open-view kitchen in an up-to-date and easygoing atmosphere. The menu is a celebration of authentic asian flavours. It proposes a variety of dishes which include everything from its iconic ramens (very aromatic broths with noodles, meat or fresh vegetables) and teppanyakis to spicy curries and varied donburis. It also offers various vegetarian tofu and vegetable-based options alongside an extensive choice of fresh juices.
With just a few months left before the brand’s fans can enjoy its famous dishes in Madrid, people can already start working up an appetite through its Spanish social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
