Starbucks opens its first store in Tenerife

  • The new Starbucks store in Siam Mall has a surface area of 208m2 and has created with its opening 14 jobs.
  • The venue design incorporates elements of oriental culture, which plays with the contrast of lights and shadows.
  • This is the first Starbucks store to open in the archipelago, due to an agreement between Grupo VIPS and the Canarian firm Amura Food for the development of the brand on the Islands.
Tenerife, 14th September, 2017.

Starbucks, the world's first coffee roaster, today opened its doors at CC Siam Mall (Avda. Siam, 3. Costa Adeje). This is the first Starbucks store in Tenerife, and the first in the city of the archipelago, as until now the Canary Islands only had a Starbucks shop at the airport of Gran Canaria.  The inauguration was attended by Álvaro Salafranca, Starbucks General Manager in Spain and Portugal, Felipe de Luz, Amura Food Operations Director, Angels Palermo, General Director of Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Luis Méndez Martín , Councilor for Economic Development and Employment Policies of the Town Hall de Adeje, Abel Morales, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands and Hugo Gil, manager of CC Siam Mall.

This opening is the result of a collaboration agreement signed between Grupo VIPS and Amura Food SL, Canarian company of reference in hospitality, which already manages several brands of Grupo VIPS in the mainland. As of this agreement, Amura Food becomes an exclusive partner for the development of the Starbucks brand on the islands, of which Grupo VIPS is the exclusive licensee in Spain and Portugal.

The opening of this store is part of the expansion plan in which Starbucks wishes to consolidate its presence in this autonomous community. In this sense, the Canarian archipelago is a key region both for its potential as a local market as well as its status as a tourist enclave for thousands of people every year.

Chinese Shadow plays under the Tenerife sunlight

The new CC Siam Mall Starbucks has a surface area of ​​208 m2, which is divided between the interior area and the terrace. The interior floor only incorporates the bar area, while all its seating capacity (86) is on the terrace.

Located in a Thai-inspired shopping mall, the store's design incorporates elements of oriental culture, like an interplay of lights and shadows. Thus, the terrace has several screens that in addition to dividing the venue and delimiting the different seating areas, it serves to project a beautiful contrast between the light and shadow areas, as if they were Chinese shadow plays. A large pavilion, screen-printed with the Starbucks logo, can add more shade to the venue when the sun is overhead.

Precisely because of the beauty of its tonality, for the decor of the premises it has opted for a palette of colors inspired by the brightness of the sunlight, which embraces the island of Tenerife.
