A hundred young people in vulnerable situations “graduate” at Grupo Vips

Madrid, June 28, 2016. Grupo Vips, one of the leading multi-brand and multi-format groups in the food service and retail sector in Spain, celebrated the first 2016 graduation ceremony at the Botín Foundation for the internship program included in its “Road to Employment” plan, the aim of which is to improve the employability of people in vulnerable situations.

The event featured the presence of Plácido Arango and María Calvo, President and Director of Talent Management and CSR at Grupo Vips, respectively, as well as Iñigo Sainz de Miera, Managing Director of the Botín Foundation. The work done during the first half of 2016 by nearly a hundred young people, who were accompanied by family and guardians, was recognized at the ceremony. Also participating in the event were the organizations Norte Joven, Altius, Artica,  La Rueca, Fundación Tomillo, Fundación Éxit, Pinardi, Secretariado Gitano and the Red Cross, in addition to the María Zayas Higher School of Hotel and Restaurant Management and the Lago Higher School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, with which Grupo Vips collaborates on different phases of the “Road to Employment” program.

Some of the companies and entities that participate in the Grupo Vips Corporate Responsibility programs were also represented.

A commitment to the professional development of the most vulnerable

“Road to Employment” is a complete employability program run by Grupo Vips for young people in vulnerable situations which starts with the “On the starting line” plan where voluntary Grupo Vips trainers collaborate with various entities to personally accompany these young people as they engage in their first contacts with the job market: responsibility, initiative and teamwork are some of the values fostered.

The project is complemented with the internship and training program in coordination with a number of entities and hotel and restaurant management schools. Yesterday, the first 2016 class of this program graduated with a group of a hundred young people. In 2015, 413 young people participated in this plan with 260 scheduled to begin working at Grupo Vips.

2016 Grupo Vips Corporate Responsibility Report

Grupo Vips also presented its Corporate Responsibility Report today, which highlights not only its employability programs, but also several other projects such as those related to its commitment to quality and healthy foods.

A commitment to excellent quality products and services is one of the Group Vips’ identity marks. The gluten-free offer was also updated in 2015 at all of its VIPS, VIPSmart and Ginos restaurants, with the Innovation and Quality team improving the recipes and adding new ones in close collaboration with the main coeliac disease associations. Fridays also worked on its first gluten-free offer, which was launched in 2016.

Also standing out are the programs undertaken in collaboration with the community. Grupo Vips restaurants are proactively involved in the environments where they operate with the development of specific projects that work on each community’s specific needs in collaboration with local charity organizations. Projects like workshops, courses and sports conferences have been possible thanks to the 361 volunteers who invested more than 1,000 hours in 2015 so they could be carried out.

A constantly evolving plan

In 2016, Grupo Vips, and the 9,300 people who work for it, will continue expanding the projects initiated last year with the new Corporate Responsibility Framework Plan by widening the scope of their projects and increasing the number of collaborators in each community, working so groups in vulnerable situations may improve their employability and so the people who are a part of the team can continue developing their talent in an atmosphere of equality and diversity.
